WE ONLY SELECT THE BEST TIMBER

Stability and durability is key in window construction, and this is why at SB Joinery we only select the best timber to suit the application it is used in.

STANDARD TIMBER TYPES FOR WINDOW CONSTRUCTION

SAPELE

Sapele is a reddish brown timber with interlocked grain giving it excellent stability and durability for use on windows. The close and interlocked grain makes it a hard timber and therefore very suited to demanding external environments.

ALTERNATIVE TIMBER TYPES FOR WINDOW CONSTRUCTION

ACCOYA

We recommend Accoya due to its outstanding stability and durability properties. Accoya is a modified timber that undergoes a proprietary, non-toxic acetylation process that permanently modifies the wood to the core. The result is an outstanding durable and stable product perfect for windows as the swelling and shrinking of acetylated wood is very minimal. For more information view our Accoya page.

OAK

Oak is one of the most attractive looking timbers, but it is also a very durable and stable product, ideal for timber windows. This timber can look very attractive when finished in a translucent stain

EUROPEAN REDWOOD

European Redwood is softwood with a pale, yellowish brown colour and wider grain. This timber can be used for external window construction but normally with a hardwood cill such as sapele or oak (the part of the window construction that is most exposed). A cheaper option but for less demanding environments.
